Treatments
I offer a multimodal approach to treatment, which includes:
MRT (Myofascial Release Therapy):
Refers to a type of soft tissue therapy. It incorporates stretching and shortening the muscle with tension and pressure along the muscle fibers.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy:
This technique uses a metal tool to massage or scrape the skin gently. It can be used to stretch muscle fibers and increase range of motion.
Acupuncture and Dry Needling:
A treatment in which very thin needles are inserted into certain points in the body. It can be used to provide pain relief, interrupt the pain-spasm cycle, increase blood flow, stimulate specific systems in the body and increase activation of muscles.
Nerve Flossing:
Movement patterns used to pull a nerve back and forth through its pathway so that it can stay free of entrapments and reduce any inflammation around it. Vibration can be applied to the nerve during floss patterns to help break up entrapments and reduce pain.
Adjustments:
A high velocity, low amplitude thrust that is applied to a joint that currently does not have its full or normal range of motion. It briefly takes the joint beyond its normal range of motion in order to restore its normal function.
Toggle Board Extremity Adjusting:
A toggle board is a small padded board that is used to adjust smaller joints like wrists or ankles. Recognized by the clapping noise that it makes, the board provides a quick deceleration under the joint in addition to a thrust over the joint to decrease the amount of pressure needed to adjust. This technique can allow a much gentler feel to an adjustment while still using the same amount of total force.
Ergonomic and Posture Assessments:
Not all painful conditions are caused by traumatic injuries, in fact, many can be caused by poor posture or poor work space set ups. I can provide an assessment of both and give you ideas of how to make changes so that you are better supported and in the most advantageous set up.
Taping:
I provide athletic taping to help support joints and/or activate muscles for certain injuries. This can help with pain reduction, stability and can assist with gradual return to sport.
Rehabilitative Exercise Programming:
My goal is always to reduce pain and maintain pain-free function. A large part of maintenance involves keeping the muscles and bones strong and balanced. For each condition, I will create a program that is tailored to fit your needs and ability. I will demonstrate, assign, help you practice and progress these exercises to keep you functioning at your optimal capacity.
Joint Mobilizations:
A low velocity, low amplitude technique used to create movement in restricted joints. It will often feel like firm, gentle “nudging” at certain joints in the spine or extremities. A gentle, effective alternative to Adjustments.
